懐かしの作品たちから

堀越千秋
1948年東京都生まれ。東京藝術大学大学院油画科専攻終了。1976年スペイン政府給費学生としてマドリッドに定住。「武満徹全集」の装画で経済通産大臣賞。カンテの名手としても活躍。著書に「赤土色のスペイン」「美を見て死ね」など多数出版。1990年より画廊香月にて展覧会や他企画多数。2014年スペイン政府より文民功労賞を受賞。2016年マドリッドにて死去。
Chiaki Horikoshi
Born in 1948, Tokyo.Graduated from Tokyo University of the Arts. 1976,Settled in Madrid as an exchange student sponsored by the Spanish government. Received the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Prize for “Takemitsu Toru Complete Works ”.He was also active as a singer of cante. Many publications such as “Red-brown Spain”, “Death by looking at beauty” in the book.Since 1990 many exhibitions and other projects at Gallery Kazuki. 2014, received a civilian award for distinguished service from the Spanish government.2016, passed away in Madrid.
「美は、一目で分かる。しかし、そのためには、訓練が必要である。”美とはひとつの訓練である”と小林秀雄は言った。訓練なしに分かる美は、子供も大好きなアメやチョコレートだ。しかし世界はもっと豊かな味覚に満ちている。
…カンテの美は、声が消えてゆく、その弱らせ方にこそある。大仰に言うとカンタオールの人生の味わいが出るのだ。

1976年フランコがまだ生きていて、絵かきが絵かきだった時代。生きた芸術を求め堀越は、東京芸術大学大学院を修了後スペインへと渡った。
「努力や反省から芸術は生まれない」「すべての芸術とは遊びに似て、楽しくやらなければならない、飽きたら思いきりよく方向転換すれば良い。アートは本来短気で、雑で、力強く、それに細心さが伴わなければならない」絶えず堀越が語り続けたことばでした。
うねるダイナミックな黒い線は、すべての欲望を呑み込む。歌う色彩は、およそこの世の生きものたちの息吹き。 自由奔放な生きざまと、その表現活動は、圧倒的な存在感を持って見るものの命の根っこを揺さぶる。零れるような笑顔の奥から光の矢を放つような眼差しで、一瞬の内に傍らにいる者を魅了する”獣と子供の魂を持つ生きもの”、”恐るべき天才芸術家” 。
スペインにおいて自己を模索し続け、スペインと日本の架け橋となって生きた芸術家、堀越千秋の展覧会「美を見て死ね」を開催いたします。作品は、代表作から生前最後に制作した銅版画、陶作品。アンダルシアのヒターノたちとの交流や「白岳しろ」TVCMロケの映像を紹介します。また、挿絵や表紙画の絵本、書籍など、堀越千秋の生きた声を届けられたらと思います。

※「美を見て死ね」は『週間朝日』(朝日新聞出版刊)2014年-2016年に掲載された連載のタイトル。2017年に株式会社エイアンドエフより単行本として刊行。
“Beauty is understood at a glance. But it requires training. As Kobayashi Hideo once said: ‘Beauty is a training’. The beauty without any training would be candy and chocolate, for which a child would be crazy; the world is filled with the wealth of far richer tastes.
…The beauty of cante lies in the way its voice diminishes and disappears. In it one would sense, as it were, the flavour and weight of cantaor’s life revealing itself.
…Where does the reality of the cante lie? It is the straightforward vitality, which only the poor people in the poor Andalusia possess. The rich people are those who possess what belong to others. How could they possibly cry the cries of the soul? Has there ever been rich Christ, or rich Gogh? In 1976, when Franco was still alive, artists were real artists. Seeking the real living arts, Horikoshi went to Spain, after having finished the Art School at Tokyo University of the Arts.
“The art is not borne in the efforts or from the reflection.” “Every art has to be enjoyed as in a playful game; if it has turned into something no more appealing, one can boldly turn around. Art should be in itself impulsive, rough, powerful, and simultaneously has to be accompanied by the utmost meticulousness.” Such were the words he used to tell us repeatedly.
The dynamically meandering black lines seem to draw and devour all the desires. The singing colours are the breathing of all of living creatures. His freewheeling way of life and artistic activities shake the soul of the viewers at the root of life with the overwhelming presence. His glance, shedding light behind the brimming smile, immediately captured the heart and soul of those who encountered him: the creature with the spirit of beasts and children; an “awesome artistic genius”.
We now present “Die having seen Beauty”, the memorial exhibition of Horikoshi Chiaki, who throughout his life had kept seeking himself in Spain, and lived throwing a bridge between Spain and Japan. The works include some of his masterpieces, the last etchings and pottery. In some special booths, we show the friendship he had engaged with Andalusian Jitanos, and the location scenes of the “Hakutakeshiro” TV advertisement. We wish we could also send you his live voices in such works as illustrations, book jackets, and essays.
